Thoughts on Your Birthday
Johnny Jones, 13 March 1997
A couple of weeks ago, I told my emerging crocuses to stay put; I was sure winter wasn't done. But there is a little flock of them, blooming in my yard, purple, white, and yellow, encouraging me with thoughts of spring.
We think of spring as a time of new beginnings, as a time for birthdays for animals and for the earth itself. So what better time than to send you a birthday card? I hope you will receive love and hope from these Biblical thoughts about who you are
God made you, inside and out.
You were planned.
For you created my inmost being,
You knit me together in my mother's womb
You were uniquely designed and created,
with the same care and precision God used when He
made the universe.
I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Your works are wonderful;
I know that full well.
God made you intentionally.
You were no mistake.
You were formed in love to God's exact specifications.
My frame was not hidden from you
When I was made in the secret place
Design and plan went into you.
God is not the least bit dissatisfied with your inborn talents, your intelligence, your aptitudes, your appearance, or your personality, because His hands fashioned you.
When I was woven together
In the depths of the Earth
Your eyes saw my unformed body
God has a plan for you,
A plan He Himself selected.
All the days ordained for me
Were written in your book,
Before one of them came to be
You are one of His original masterpieces.
How precious to me are
Your thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!
Were I to count them, they would
Outnumber the grains of sand
When I awake, I am still with you.
God rejoices over you with singing
And takes great delight in you.
He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing.
God's thoughts towards you are loving and kind.
Your birth day was ordained by Him.
The scripture is Psalm 139:13-18 and Zeph. 3:17-18 NIV. It is italicized. the thoughts are based on a birthday card and on 31 Days of Praise by Ruth Myers.
