In 1977, after we had lived here a year, a friend and I began a pre-school. It was a struggle at first, but it became successful. In  connection with pre-school (Viburnum's Learning Tree), we had conferences with the parents. It turned out we were saying  many of the same things over and over to different parents, so I thought of writing a weekly article for our local paper. It was  called "Parents' Corner," and I included ideas I gained from reading or conferences or observation. It morphed, after twenty  years or so, into Johnny's Corner, which is still running weekly in The Quad County Star and The Steelville Star.
